Public Charge Community Forum at Masa on Friday 11/16

City Councilmember Diana Ayala, Masa, and Bronx Legal Services invite you to a

PUBLIC CHARGE COMMUNITY FORUM
November 16th, 5-6:30 PM
Tlanezcalli Community Center
2770 Third Avenue, 1st Floor, Bronx, NY 10455

Do you have questions about how accessing public benefits now could affect a future immigration application?

The current administration has proposed certain changes to the rules governing “public charge.” These rules are used to determine if a person who is applying to adjust their status might depend solely on public benefits in the future. If you want to learn more about the proposed changes, how they might affect you, and next steps, come to this community forum!

There will be a limited number of consultations with attorneys available. The consultations will focus on public benefit eligibility and public charge — they will not be immigration screenings. An appointment is required. To make an appointment, call Gilberto Alvarado at 347-297-4922.

There will also be childcare for children ages 4+, also limited. If you need childcare, please arrive early.

Call Masa with any questions at 718-360-6655.

Masa’s Fall Update & Honoring Indigenous Peoples’ Day

Happy Indigenous Peoples Day and Día De La Raza! At Masa, close to 30% of the people we serve speak an indigenous language. Today, we celebrate them and all the native people of this continent who continue to be marginalized but whose beauty, resilience, and ancestral knowledge give us light, courage, and hope!

We also sent out our fall newsletter today — you can learn more about our recent work here.

Masa’s End of Summer Update

At Masa, we had a summer full of joy and learning in community! Our end of summer newsletter includes some exciting news about our parent organizing group, Masa Parents in Action, as well as a new women’s economic empowerment program we’ll be launching in the coming months.

Summer fun at Masa!

Summer always goes by so fast! Our Pre-K playgroup, literacy program, robotics program, and youth program have been learning and growing all summer. See some of the Masa summer cohort in action below:

Summer begins at Masa

Masa’s summer program began yesterday! We’re offering two robotics courses, two literacy courses, and a youth program this summer, and we’re so excited to have gotten started! In the coming weeks, we’ll also share details for some upcoming community events geared towards families of children under 5. Stay tuned!

May Update

Better late than never — see what we’ve been working on in our most recent newsletter. May included a visit from the new DOE Chancellor, Richard Carranza; a feature in El Diario about our parent organizing group’s campaign to end race-based bullying in local schools; and gearing up for summer!
