For Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to Masa. There are many ways to get involved, from outreach to our after-school program.

Meet Our Volunteers

Constance

Patience and persistence! Building the meaningful relationships I now have with students I’ve worked with for two or more years has been the most gratifying journey. The scholars I worked with are such smart, considerate, and kind individuals. They have such great potential. I know that if they work hard and believe in themselves they can achieve anything they want.

Fun, learning, and smiles: After three years of volunteering at the Masa After-school Program, my experiences are still life-changing. Tutoring can be challenging but joining Masa means you’re FAMILY: you’ll find the support you need to get the job done. Our family is invested in advocating for children and families, improving grades, sharing cultural experiences, and having fun. Masa rocks!

Rewarding. Energizing. Comedic. I joined Masa because I wanted to give back to the community and I wanted to become involved with a side of NYC I wasn’t familiar with. I tutor two students — they’re quite different from each other, but I love how consistently we laugh together. The most rewarding part of volunteering is seeing my students progress and forming a supportive relationship with them.

Exciting, gratifying, transformational: I have had the pleasure of working with different children and I have been able to make a small difference with each one. The most rewarding aspect so far is seeing the students you work with grow in front of your eyes. I have seen middle school kids transform into individuals who have integrity, are curious, always questioning, and who never cease to teach you.

Defend DACA & TPS! Rally Against Attacks on Immigrants

August 15, 2017, 5:00pm - August 15, 2017, 6:00pm

IMPORTANT: According to news reports, President Trump is scheduled to be in Trump Tower at the time of this action. If true, there will be a heavy law enforcement presence in the area, including federal law enforcement officers like the Secret Service. This is a permitted event, and we encourage everyone to be mindful of security expectations and care for themselves and everyone else attending. ALMOST EVERY STREET WILL BE BARRICADED ON 5th AVE Our stage will be on 5th Ave (east side) on 54th street Folks must enter 5th ave via 49th, 50th or 51st street Our protest space will begin and folks can enter the area starting at 52nd (they extend to 54th). This August 15th will mark the five year anniversary since DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) started. DACA was won because of the resistance led by immigrant youth across the country to win protection from deportation. With the Trump administration, DACA is under attack. More than 800,000 young people are in danger of losing DACA, due to the lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Paxton. Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has provided 350,000 immigrants the ability to live free from the threat of deportation and granted them work permits. Now, the program is under attack by Trump and Gen. Kelly. We must rally to defend the program and ensure that all of our communities are protected from deportation. DACA and TPS are both critical to protecting undocumented youth, families and workers from being deported. They are programs that are integral to the survival and well-being of all immigrant communities. On next Tuesday, August 15th at 5PM, join us for an action near Trump Tower by 54th Street and 5th Avenue. To demand the following: Save DACA and TPS from being dismantled. Stop the criminalization of all undocumented immigrants. #Here2Stay #Here2Fight #DefendDACA #DefendTPS If your organization would like to sponsor or endorse this event, Please complete this google form: goo.gl/6Veuy3 Sponsored by: DRUM- Desis Rising Up and Moving Minkwon Center for Community Action Columbia County Sanctuary Movement New York Immigration Coalition Make The Road New York Yonkers Sanctuary Movement Ugnayan Youth for Social Change Jews For Racial and Economic Justice Planned Parenthood of New York City Showing Up for Racial Justice New York Million Hoodies Movement For Justice United We Dream UnLocal, Inc Chhaya CDC Caribbean Equality Project Faith in New York SAFE NYC Rutgers AAUP-AFT CAIR-NY Churches United to Save And Heal Atlas DIY NYS Interfaith Network for Immigration Reform CUNY DREAMers Jewish Voice for Peace - NYC Endorsed by: Urban Youth Collaborative Teachers Unite Global Action Project Sadhana: Coalition of Progressive Hindus Jahajee Sisters RAISE: Revolutionizing Asian American Immigrant Stories on the East Coast Justice Committee Communities United for Police Reform BYP100 - Black Youth Project 100 Chinese Progressive Association El Centro Del Inmigrante OCA-NY Asian Pacific American Advocates NAPAWF*NYC Rompiendo Las Aguas-Radio Program Park Avenue Christian Church (DoC)/UCC Long Island Wins NESRI- National Economic & Social Rights Initiative Galapagos Center for New Americans NYU Asian Pacific American Coalition International Socialist Organization - NYC Rise and Resist
