Mission

Our mission is to promote higher education for students of Mexican descent in New York.

The Mexican-American Students’ Alliance (MASA) provides positive guidance and support for underserved youth of Mexican descent living in New York City. MASA encourages its participants to strive to their fullest potential by setting and achieving academic goals in its tutoring and mentoring program. Furthermore, by fostering cultural and civic awareness, MASA empowers a future generation of active and involved citizens.

Recent statistics have shown that more than 47% of students with mexican background are dropping out of highscool. The statistic is alarming compared to any other ethnic group living in New York, such as 32% of Puerto Rican and Dominican students, 17% by African Americans, and 7% by whites and Asians.

Our organization builds bases through a network of volunteers that help identify and eliminate the causes of the alarming statistics that show the decreasing level of education within the Mexican Community.
